Updates regarding the COVID-19 vaccine

May 04, 2020 | Farah Jassawalla

Ever since the outbreak of COVID-19 in December 2019, no vaccine has come out yet to treat the virus. Doctors around the globe are treating patients for their symptoms rather than the virus itself.
Workings on the vaccine have begun but it is calculated to take a pretty long time. At the moment, 78 vaccine projects are taking place around the globe with 37 in the phase of development. Human testing is expected to begin soon. People will either be injected by the vaccine or a placebo to check its effectiveness in infected people. However, this process is time-consuming.
To speed it up, scientists have come up with an idea to expose people to the virus, which is highly risky but could lead to the vaccine much sooner than expected. Many youngsters are appealed by the idea of becoming volunteers for this research but they should know that this virus can be deadly for anyone, and no one, regardless of age, is fully immune to it.
