ABO AB SCREEN

About Test

The ABO Antibody Screen test is a blood test that is used to detect the presence of antibodies against the ABO blood group antigens. The ABO blood group system is the most important and well-known blood group system and is used to determine a person's blood type (A, B, AB, or O).

The test is used to screen for antibodies that may cause a transfusion reaction if a person with these antibodies receives blood of a different type. The test is performed on a patient's blood sample and can detect the presence of antibodies that are directed against A and/or B antigens. A positive result in the ABO antibody screen test can indicate that the person has developed antibodies due to prior blood transfusions, pregnancy, or previous exposure to foreign blood.

This test is important for blood transfusion purposes and helps to ensure that patients receive blood that is compatible with their own blood type to avoid transfusion reactions.
