RPR Serology reflex to Serodia

About Test

RPR (Rapid Plasma Reagin) serology is a screening test used to detect syphilis, a sexually transmitted disease caused by the bacterium Treponema pallidum. If the initial RPR test is positive, a reflex to the Serodia test may be performed to confirm the results. The Serodia test is a more specific and sensitive test for syphilis that uses a treponemal antibody-based immunoassay. Unlike the RPR test, which measures non-treponemal antibodies, the Serodia test measures treponemal antibodies that are present for a longer period of time and do not decrease as the disease is treated. The reflex to the Serodia test from a positive RPR result helps to confirm a diagnosis of syphilis and ensure appropriate treatment.
